A turnaround 10-foot jump shot by Tyson Ratzlaff with 1.6 seconds left in the game lifted Tabor to a 57-55 win over Southwestern in the first round of the KCAC Tournament Wednesday in Hillsboro.

In a game featuring mutual mediocrity – Tabor shot 31.7 percent from the field while Southwestern mustered 37.3 percent – the Bluejays trailed by a paltry score of 20-17 at halftime. Tabor managed to build a five-point lead, 51-46, with four and a half minutes to go in the game, but with 2:01 on the clock, Southwestern had regained a 54-52 advantage. The Moundbuilders managed one free throw the rest of the way while Tabor got two free throws from Tyson Ratzlaff and one from Micah Ratzlaff before Tyson nailed his game-winning shot.

The Brothers Ratzlaff finished 1-2 in scoring for Tabor — 17 for Tyson and 16 for Micah. Grant Brubacher was in double figures with 10.

With the win, the Bluejays (18-10) move into Saturday’s semifinals against either Bethel or Kansas Wesleyan.
