Yoder breaks four MCAA weight lifting marks

Hillsboro senior Alan Yoder broke four Mid Central Activities Association records at the league powerlifting tournament Jan. 18.

After clinching league titles in the 165-pound weight class in three different events, Yoder was given a fourth lift in each event for a shot at the league record, and was successful in each event. Yoder lifted 375 pounds in the squat, 275 in the clean, 265 in the bench. His total score of 955 was also a record.

Brian Thiessen was second all-around in the 198-pound class. He placed third in the squat (330) and the clean (250), and fourth in the bench (235).

Dustin Hendricks lifted in the 198-pound class and placed fourth overall. He was second in the squat at 335 pounds and third in bench at 270 pounds.

Tyler Stout placed fifth all-around in the 148-pound class. He finished fourth in the squat at 260 and fifth in the bench at 195.

In the same weight class, Jerod Metcalf placed second in the bench with a lift of 210.

In the girls competition, Alisa Prior finished first in the all-around. She won the clean at 115, was second in the squat at 195 and third in bench at 95.

In the power-weight class, Amy Duerksen placed second all around by winning the bench competition at 135, and placing second in the clean at 145 and fourth in squat at 200. Whitney Washmon placed third all-around in the same class. She was third in the squat (205) and bench (115) and fourth in the clean (130).

Danielle Goossen was sixth all-around and was fourth in the bench (110).
