The Marion wrestling team split a pair of dual matches Tuesday at Flinthills High School.
Against the home team, Marion rolled to a 36-12 win. The Warriors prevailed in three of four matches determined in competition and had an 18-6 lead in forfeit points.
Winning matches for Marion were Gavin Moore (119 pounds), who defeated Curtis Anderson by fall at the 0:53 mark, Zac Ewert (130), who pinned Jude Kilgore at 1:09, and Casey Nelson (135), who pinned Isaiah Smith at 0:22.
Against their tough Cottonwood Valley League foe Herington, the Warriors came out on the short end of a 37-21 tally.
Marion managed three wins in the eight matches determined on the mat. Moore pinned Mike Porter at 1:11, Nelson defeated Tyson Utech, 4-2, and Thad Looper (215) pinned Steven Johnson at 3:25.
Herington held an 18-6 advantage in forfeit points.
“We wrestled well tonight,” coach Chad Adkins said. “We keep getting better every week.”
Coming-Marion was scheduled to compete Tuesday in a double-dual at Eurkea. On Saturday they will join the field at the Southeast of Saline Invitational. Matches begin at 10 a.m.
Next Tuesday, Marion will compete in a double-dual at Chase County. Matches begin there at 6 p.m.
