The Hillsboro Middle School girls teams swept a pair of games from Smoky Valley Jan. 27.
The eighth-graders coasted to a 35-11 win to run their record to 10-1. JuliAnne Chisholm led a balanced attack with 10 points. Megan Peachey added eight and Hannah Marsh seven. Also scoring were Amanda Bartel with four, and Jessica Heidel, Tina Frick and Lora Andrews with two each.
The seventh-grade team improved to 9-4 with a 33-31 overtime win. The Trojans came from nine points down in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 30 by the end of regulation. All the overtime scoring was by free throws.
Audrey Weinbrenner scored 15 points, including two overtime free throws for HMS. Also scoring were Amanda Faber with seven points, Jenesa Klose with four, Samantha Heinrichs three, and Bobbi Jo Carlson and Amy Neufeld two each.
Seventh-grade tourney-HMS split a pair of games at a three-team round-robin tournament in Hesston Jan. 25.
In the first game, HMS defeated Lindsborg, 32-22. Audrey Weinbrenner scored 20 points for her team, including 14 in the first half. Also scoring were Bobbi Jo Carlson with six, Chelsea Bebermeyer four and Amy Neufeld two.
In the second game, the home team prevailed, 23-14. Weinbrenner and Amanda Faber each scored four, Bebermeyer three, Jenesa Klose two and Carlson one.
Collegiate-HMS split a pair of games against Collegiate Jan. 23.
The eighth-grade team ran its record to 9-1 with a 41-37 overtime win in Hillsboro.
Collegiate rallied from a three-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 34 at the end of regulation.
JuliAnne Chisholm scored 16 and Hannah Marsh 10 to lead the Trojans. Tina Frick added six, Megan Peachey five, and Lora Andrews and Charissa Slayden two each.
The seventh-grade team lost to the Spartans, 31-16, to drop to 7-3. Audrey Weinbrenner scored six points. Scoring two each were Jessica Klose, Amanda Faber, Samantha Heinrichs, Amanda Bina and Amy Neufeld.
