Area girls, boys have up-and-down week

GIRLS

Centre 47, Chase County 37. Laura Klenda paced the Cougars with 14 points, followed by Raschelle Jirak with 12. Centre led 25-13 at halftime, and maintained its lead for the 10-point victory.

McPherson 89, Canton-Galva 11. Canton-Galva trailed 28-6 after one quarter, and went scoreless in the second quarter as McPherson built a halftime lead of 51-6. McPherson increased the lead to 68-7 after three quarters. Ashley Unruh was the Eagles’ top scorer with four.

Inman 65, Canton-Galva 25. Inman got a quick start out of the blocks and led 23-4 after the first quarter. Canton-Galva committed 30 turnovers. Ashley Scott paced the Eagles with 15 points.

Smoky Valley 60, Canton-Galva 45. Smoky Valley won the battle for seventh place at the McPherson tournament. The Vikings led 16-9 after one quarter, and stretched its advantage to 38-22 by halftime. Canton-Galva was led by Dani Blair with 12 points, followed by Ashley Unruh and Ashley Scott with 10 points each. The Eagles remain winless on the season.

BOYS

Ell-Saline 59, Peabody Burns 56. Ell-Saline outscored Peabody-Burns 24-15 in the third quarter, to gain control of the game. Caleb Good scored 23 points, including six 3-pointers, for Peabody. Nick Conquest added 11 points and three 3-pointers, while Adam Jones also scored 11.

Centre 84, Chase County 40. Centre led by seven, 21-14 after one quarter, and stretched its advantage to 46-24, by halftime. Todd Stahlecker scored 27 points, followed by Curtis Gutsch with 19, and Travis Burns 12. Marshall O’Brien led Chase County with 11, before fouling out.
