Hillsboro laid claim to its seventh Trojan Classic championship in nine years with a 37-32 win over the Inman Teutons Saturday night at Brown Gymnasium.
Hillsboro got off to a great start, racing to an 18-6 lead after one quarter. But the Trojan shooting cooled down considerably in the second quarter, as HHS managed only 4 of 11 from the field. Inman took advantage to pull to within three, 24-21, at the break.
The game stayed close throughout the third quarter. Both team managed only two baskets in nine attempts. Hillsboro still led, but only by a score of 29-27 when the quarter ended on a huge 3-point bucket by Dustin Jost.
In the final period, the number of shots dwindled to six a piece. The Trojans made two and Inman only one.
HHS still built the lead to seven, 35-28 on a basket by Tyler Peachey with 2:26 to go. But Inman cut the lead to three, 35-32, with less than two minutes to play. The Trojans managed three foul shots in six attempts in the final 24.4 seconds to nail down the win.
