Trojans win two from Sterling (Jan. 14)

It took five games to break through, but Hillsboro coach Becky Carlson won her 300th game — all at HHS — as the Trojans broke a five-game losing streak with a 53-41 win over Sterling on Tuesday.



The Trojans played a strong game, led offensively by Charity Davis, who scored a career-high 18 for Hillsboro. The Trojans trailed 4-2 early in the contest, but once Katie Fast put them on top with an old-fashioned 3-point play with 4:31 to play in the first quarter, the Trojans never trailed again.



Also contributing a big game for the Trojans was Amy Duerksen with 12 points. April Funk chipped in 10.



With the win, the girls improve to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in Mid Division play.



The Trojans boys scored first and never looked back en route to a comfortable and well-played 64-31 win. HHS did not allow a Sterling field goal in the entire first quarter and led 13-3 at the first break. By halftime it was 31-16 and then 52-21 at the end of three quarters.



Coach Darrel Knoll went to his bench early and often in the big win, which pushes the team’s record to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the Mid Division of the MCAA.



Steven Chisholm led the team in scoring with a career-high 12 and Andy Brubacher added 11,
