ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
I was traveling to Herington on New Year’s Eve evening from Wichita. Between Lehigh and Hillsboro on U.S. Highway 56, my fan clutch malfunctioned and I had to pull over onto the shoulder.

I was unable to drive my Jeep so I decided to start walking to Lehigh for help. I was picked up by a person heading to McPherson, and he turned back and took me to the Hillsboro Police Department.

There I was helped by a uniformed police officer who let me use the phone to call for help and then took me to a local fast-food restaurant to wait for my ride.

I did not get the name of either one of these people, but I had to say something to the people of Hillsboro.

Thanks to the two who helped me and thanks to the city of Hillsboro.
