Virgil McLinden, 87

Virgil “Bud” L. McLinden, 87, rancher and livestock caretaker, died Dec. 22 at Marion Manor.

The funeral was Dec. 26 at Holy Family Parish, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Florence with Father Stephen Gronert officiating. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence.

He was born April 1, 1915, to John J. and Katharine (Flueler) McLinden in Cedar Point. On April 8, 1940, he was married to Roseva Melson, who survives.

He is also survived by one son, Richard McLinden and wife Patty of Marion; one sister, Lucile McLinden of Denver; one grandson, Chuck McLinden and wife Lori of Marion; one granddaughter, Susie Morton and husband Craig of Olathe; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the American Cancer Society and the Girl Scout Council of the Flint Hills.

Evelyn R. Stage, 87

Evelyn R. Stage, 87, former telephone operator in Lost Springs and employee of the Bakery and Motel in Marion, died Jan. 5 at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Valley United Methodist Church in Marion with Janet Weathersbee serving as officiant. The burial will be at Marion Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 24, 1915, to John Henry and Lillian Pearl (Doty) Bredemeier in Antelope.

She is survived by one son, Jerald Stage of Olathe; one daughter, Connie Bevan of Augusta; one brother, Herb Bredemeier of Marion; one sister, Elsie Coleman of Wichita; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

A memorial was established with Valley United Methodist Church.
