The Hillsboro Trojans closed out their pre-holiday schedule by splitting games with the Smoky Valley Vikings in Lindsborg Friday.

The girls battled the Vikings in a game that was close almost the entire way, but came out on the short end of a 37-36 score. The Trojans trailed by a point, 31-30 going into the final frame and made only two of six free throws in the final quarter — the last two misses were on one-and-one opportunities in the final 2:16. The Trojans also got two shots at the basket in the final 17 seconds but neither found the mark.

April Funk scored 13 points to pace Hillsboro, which is now 2-2.

The Trojan boys got off to a 19-7 start, then let the Viking crawl back to within three points in the middle of the third quarter before picking up the pace again in the final stanza for a 47-40 win.

Tyler Weinbrenner scored 21 for Hillsboro. With the win, the Trojans are 3-1 at the break.
