Tabor men upset the defending NAIA national champs

Micah Ratzlaff took game scoring honors with 26 points, but brother Tyson added 22, including 11-of-11 free throws in the second half to lead the Tabor Bluejays to an 87-82 win over the University of Arts & Sciences of Oklahoma (UASO) Saturday at the Sterling College Warrior Classic.

The Bluejays jumped to an early lead, but the Drovers, the defending champions of NAIA Division I, used their height advantage and athleticism to take a 40-37 halftime lead.

Tabor trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half before going on a 10-0 run midway through to take a 76-74 lead. UASO led twice more before the game was over, but the Jays, behind Tyson Ratzlaff’s dead-on free-throw shooting, regained the lead and held it at game’s end when Ratzlaff intercepted a Drover pass in the final seconds and scored the last TC points on a layup as time expired.

With the win, Tabor improves to 2-2 on the year.
