Piano recital held at Parkview church

A Blue Jeans Piano Recital was held Nov. 4 at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro.

Coordinating the program was piano teacher Bev Richards.

Musicians participating in the recital were Daniel Ens, Amanda and Becky Faber, Aby Humber, Cassie Kroeker, Taylor Loewen, Darcie and Micah Mashburn, Matthew Wiebe, and Benjamin, Elise and Emma Heyen.

Assisting in duet performances were Connie Faber, Bruce Heyen, Kim Kroeker, Shelly Loewen and Ellynne Wiebe.

MCSEC board to meet Nov. 18

The Marion County Special Education Cooperative Board of Directors will meet for its monthly meeting at 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 18, in the MCSEC conference room at 302 W. Eighth in Florence.

Marion library offers week-long activities

The Marion City Library will celebrate Children’s Book Week with activities Monday, Nov. 18 to Sunday, Nov. 24.

Throughout the week, patrons can enjoy a hands-on train display, register to win a children’s book and view a collection of old children’s books.

The daily schedule of activities is as follows:

Monday, Nov. 18-story time for children ages 3 to 5 will be held from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Brownie Troop No. 56 will be the readers and helpers.

Tuesday, Nov. 19-the 100th anniversary of Animal Crackers will be celebrated. Register to win an Animal Crackers tin filled with cookies, and read about the history of Animal Crackers.

Wednesday, Nov. 20-the one-year anniversary of the library-depot renovation project will be celebrated. Come in to register for a library T-shirt.

Thursday, Nov. 21-the 100th year of the teddy bear will be feted. Bring in a teddy bear and receive a prize.

Friday, Nov. 22-story time for children ages 3 to 5 will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The special storyteller will be David Mayfield, Marion’s new city administrator.

Singing program set for Nov. 17 at church

“Singing Through the Hymnal” will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. l7, at Hillsboro Mennonite Church.

The program of communal singing and information is coordinated by Ferne and Clarence Hiebert.

Readings and 26 songs from the Worship Together hymnal will be accompanied by pianist Brad Vogel, trumpet player Bev Vogel and flutist Jennifer Bartel.

The public is invited.

Burdick UM Church to host fund-raiser

A fund-raiser to benefit Jesse Smith will be held at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, at Burdick United Methodist Church.

Smith, who is originally from Burdick, was in a car accident in September and suffered head injuries. He now resides in Salina.

The church will be accepting donations at the hog roast.

Burns library to hold two-day book fair

The Burns Community Library will hold a Scholastic Book Fair from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, at the old post-office building in Burns.

There will be activities for children and opportunities to purchase books for Christmas presents and personal libraries.

The public is invited.

Soup & pie lunch set for Senior Center

The Hillsboro Senior Center will hold a soup- and pie-lunch fund-raiser from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, at 212 North Main.

Profits from the lunch will be used to help with ongoing expenses and equipment at the Senior Center.

The public is invited.
