ORIGINALLY WRITTEN CYNTHIA MARTENS
A milestone recently occurred in the Hillsboro medical community.
Ophthalmologist Esther V. Rettig performed her 100th eye surgery at Hillsboro Community Medical Center in August. The cataract surgery was completed on patient Imogene Goossen of Moundridge.
“We’re very happy to serve the local residents,” Rettig said. “And we’re thrilled that we’ve been so well received here.”
Rettig, who has offices in McPherson, has been working with HCMC and the Lions Eye Clinic since May 1999. She sees patients in Hillsboro on the first and third Friday of each month.
The milestone celebration took place Nov. 1 at the Lions Eye Clinic. A cake, decorated with “Congratulations 100,” was served to staff and patients. The zeroes in the number 100 on the cake looked like two eyes.
On hand to help celebrate the occasion were Lois and Frank Bailey of Marion, who were Rettig’s No. 102 and No. 103 cataract-surgery patients, respectively.
