Peabody-Burns wins HOA girls’ cross country title

Ashley Elliott won the girls’ title in the Heart of America cross country meet Thursday in Hutchinson. Elliott crossed the finish line of the 2-mile course in 12:42 to lead the Warriors to the team title.

Katie Topham placed fourth in 13:05, Alyssa Carter was fifth in 13:11, Jana Windsor was seventh in 13:24, Casey Berger was 34th in 17:57 and Ashlee Burnett was 35th in 18:48.

For the boys, Nicholas Whitnet placed 25th, finishing the 3.1-mile course in 20:36, Jesse Riggs was 35 th in 22:29 and Jeremy Berger was 47th in 25:35.

The Warriors will compete in regional competition Saturday in Wichita. The girls will run at 3 p.m. and the boys at 3:30 p.m.

Also competing will be Central-Burden, Burrton, Crest, Berean Academy, Garden Plain, Goessel, Hartford, Hutchinson Central Christian, Hutchinson Trinity, Fairfield, Lebo, Lyndon, Olpe, Oxford, St. Marys Colgan, Pratt Skyline, Pretty Prairie, Sedgwick, Stafford, Sterling, Remington and Williamsburg.
