After an early scare, the Marion Warrior football team forced the Herington Railers off their home tracks Friday night defeating them 30-6.
On their first play from scrimmage, Herington’s Mitch Johnson took a hand-off 80 yards for a touchdown. No PAT’s were converted on the night. But the Railers led 6-0 early in the first quarter.
Marion went on to score 30 unanswered points in a variety of manners. Jason Matz scored two rushing touchdowns, Steven Boone ran one in from one-yard out, Joel Versch caught a pass from Clayton Chamberland and defensive end Neil Waner intercepted a Herington pitch and went the distance, scoring on a 47-yard interception.
With the victory, the Warriors improve to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the Cottonwood Valley League. Marion travels to Wichita next Friday night to take on Wichita Independent.
