Marion volleyball still perfect in CVL race

The Marion Warrior volleyball team continued its winning ways this past week. The Warriors defeated Cottonwood Valley League opponent Wichita Independent in two matches to remain unbeaten in CVL play. Marion won the first match, 15-4, 15-5, and the second match, 15-2,15-5.

“We are playing as well as anyone could expect, given we lost two key players from last year,” coach Ginger Robert said. “The upperclassmen are taking leadership roles and setting high goals.

“We need to keep working on challenging ourselves daily in practice to learn new plays and perfect our defense. We have some tough competition coming up, so we need to focus on one match at a time right now.”

Brandi Peterie led the defensive attack with 13 blocks while Ashley Secrest and Heidi Zogleman were 100 percent serving for the night.

“Our challenge is to get better every day despite our success so far,” Robert said. “We can’t get complacent just yet. If we keep that in mind and respect our opponents, I know we can go into sub-state with 20 wins or more.”

The Warriors are 14-2 overall and 8-0 in the CVL.

Coming-Marion traveled to Salina yesterday to challenge Sacred Heart in a CVL grudge match. Next Tuesday the Warriors will host Centre.
