Zac Ewert placed eighth to lead the Marion Warrior cross country team at the Council Grove Invitational run at Council Grove Lake Thursday.
The Marion senior, the only Warrior to run in the boys’ race, finished the soggy 3.1-mile course in 17 minutes 48 seconds.
For the girls, Jessica DeForest finished 15th. She covered the 2-mile course in 14:05. Following her were Alissa Vogel, who placed 34th in 14:44, Johanna Pape, 40th in 15:04, Tomi McLinden, 65th in 16:53, and Brianna Vogel, 67th in 18:15.
Marion Invit’l-Zac Ewert was the first to cross the finish line at Marion’s home cross country meet Sept. 24 at Marion County Lake.
Ewert came in with a winning time of 16:55, cracking the 17-minute mark for 3.1 miles for the first time in his career. Teammate Brian Bina was close behind, placing third in 17:25.
The Warriors’ girls team, meanwhile, finished third. Jessica DeForest was the top finisher, completing the 2-mile course in 13:17. She was followed by Alissa Vogel, who was ninth in 13:46, Johanna Pape, 10th in 14:05, Tomi McLinden, 22nd in 15:13, Brianna Vogel, 34th in 17:56, and Haley Creamer, 36th in 18:22.
Brandon Watson placed fifth in the boys’ junior varsity race with a time of 20:22.
The Warriors will run at Chapman on Thursday. Races begin at 4 p.m.
