Cougars, Bluebirds sweep triangulars

Centre (7-7)

The Cougars won both matches at a triangular with St. Xavier and the host team, Tescott, Oct 1.

Centre won its opening match against the home team, 15-13, 15-9. Ashlee Bowman was 14-for-17 spiking the ball with four kills. Laura Klenda was 10-for-14 with six kills.

Raschelle Jirak and Brianne Stahlecker combined to go 52-of-54 setting the ball with nine sets going for kills.

In the second match, the Cougars sailed past St. Xavier, 15-1, 15-4. Heiser was 8-for-8 spiking the ball with three kills to lead the team.

For the evening, Centre’s serving was exceptional. The Cougars were successful on 90 of 93 attempts for a 97 percent success rate.

The Cougars were hosts for their own triangular yesterday. They will compete in a triangular at Marion next Tuesday. Matches begin at 4:30 p.m.

Goessel (20-2)

The Bluebirds continued their winning ways, picking up a pair of wins at a triangular with Burrton and the host team, Canton-Galva.

In their first match, the Bluebirds beat Burrton, 15-8, 15-6. They came back to handle Canton-Galva easily, 15-1, 15-9.

Goessel was to travel to Sedgwick yesterday for a triangular with the Cardinals and Ell-Saline. This coming Tuesday, the Bluebirds will play host to Peabody-Burns and Trinity.

Action begins at 6:05 p.m.
