HMS volleyball Trojans win 4 of 5 matches

The Hillsboro Middle School volleyball teams won three of four matches with Sterling at home on Thursday.

The eighth-grade team lost in three games, 16-14, 11-15, 6-15.

“After winning the first game, we lost our momentum in the middle of the second game,” coach Stephanie Sinclair said. “Our serve-receive can improve. We missed three serves in the final game.”

Lora Andrews served for 17 points in the match. She was followed by Diedre Funk with 6, Hannah Marsh 5, Kelli Janzen and JuliAnne Chisholm 2 each, and Jessica Heidel 1.

In the seventh-grade game, Lauren Just served for 9 points to help her team to a 15-5, 15-10 win. Amanda Faber served for 7 points, Amy Neufeld and Jenesa Klose for 4 each, Jandi Nickel 3, and Jessica Klose, Audrey Weinbrenner and Amber Loewen 1 each.

In a seventh-grade “mixed” match, HMS prevailed 14-16, 15-5, 15-10. Samantha Heinrichs served for 14 points, Tessa Simpson 7, Kelsey Unruh 6, Julia Loewen and Jandi Nickel 5, Brittany Davis 4, and Maria Loewen, Greta Wiebe and Corissa Bartel 1.

In a seventh- and eighth-grade mixed match, HMS won 15-5, 15-4. Courtney Fast served for 6 points, Sierra Langley and Ashley Bringhurst 5, Lauryn Mayfield and Jayme Claassen 4, Anna Woelk 3, Rachelle Goldsby 2, Kelly Smith 1.
