The Marion cross-country team opened its season Thursday at Abilene. Because of the heat, the length of the races were shortened.
Zac Ewert was the team’s top finisher, placing third over two miles. Brian Bina finished 14th.
In the 1.5-mile race for girls, Jessica DeForest finished 23rd, Johanna Pape 25th, Alissa Vogel 29th and Tomi Linden 41st.
Nine teams competed in the event.
“The only thing I know to say is that I’m very happy with the results,” said first-year coach Matt Roberts. “I wish that we would have run the full distance. I’m just going to add the outcome to my memory bank. We are going to keep working hard to improve.
The Warriors will compete at the Hesston Invitational Thursday. Races begin at 4 p.m.
