Florence parade a Labor (Day) of love

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN CYNTHIA MARTENS
The 65th annual Florence Labor Day Parade marched down Main Street Monday, under sunny skies and temperatures in the 90s.

“We have different civic groups, emergency personnel and bands and people pretty much dress up their farm trucks, old cars and tractors,” said Trayce Warner, Florence Labor Day committee chairman. “People drive in the parade so they can smile and throw candy.”

The parade started at 11 a.m., with Greg Carlson of Marion leading the crowd in singing the Star Spangled Banner. As the parade got underway, children scrambled into the streets to retrieve candy thrown by parade entrants. At the conclusion of the 30-minute parade, a $130-prize drawing was held for a lucky button holder.

The parade was part of a three-day weekend celebration.
