Seven graduate from Leadership Marion County

Seven Marion County resients graduated from Leadership Marion County Class during a ceremony held Monday evening at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro. Standing (left to right) are graduates Steve Garrett and Jared Jost, both of Hillsboro, Racquel Thiessen of Goessel, Jessica Laurin of Marion, Jane Pigorsch of Lincolnville, Joanna Brazil of Peabody and Monica Leihy of Tampa.

After Tom Alstrom, Leadership Marion County chairman, welcomed the members and pastor Roger O’Neal offered the invocation, Alstrom introduced guest speaker, Val DeFever, District 9 Representative on the State Board of Education. She spoke on the importance of leadership and having a clear and focused vision. “Being a leader takes a lot of courage,” DeFever said. “It’s a choice and a commitment. You need to ask, ‘How can I be a conduit for positive changes.'”
