Hillsboro women’s, men’s 2002 club champions determined

The Hillsboro Golf Association held its annual club championship tournaments for women and men this past week.

Mary Honeck was the medalist at this year’s 18-hole Hillsboro Club Championship Tournament Aug. 24.

Honeck finished with a 91 to lead the field.

Pat Bartel won the First Flight title wth a 94, followed by Judy Klein with a 97 and Sue Klassen with a 103.

Raye Dirks won the Second Flight with a 105. She was followed by Frances Unruh at 120 and Marcella Mohn at 122.

Other awards were won by: Jane Long, straightest drive on No. 8; Bartel for closest to the pin on No. 6; Unruh for least putts (31); and Honeck, who tied with Klassen for most birdies, and also won for hole-out.

On the men’s side, Stan Utting won the club championship with a score of 144 over 36 holes.

He edged runner-up Tom Shofe by two strokes.

Mike Ryan won the club handicap title with a score of 130.2. Carl Long was runner-up at 132.4.
