Ona Donahue, 96

Ona Mary Esther (Smith) Donahue, 96, retired teacher, died Aug. 7 at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.

The funeral was Aug. 10 at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion with pastor Ransom Wiebe officiating. Burial was at Durham Park Cemetery.

She was born June 27, 1906, to Cameron D. and Amelia (Weimer) Smith in Durham. In 1930, she was married to Daniel Hubert Donahue, who predeceased her.

She is survived by one son, James C. Donahue and wife Joan of Lincolnville; one brother, Gilman Smith of Salina; one sister, Irene Houser of Abilene; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial was established with Morning Star Mennonite Church in care of Zeiner Funeral Home.

L. M. Osgood, 72

Lawrence M. Osgood, 72, retired rural mail carrier, died Aug. 9 in his home in Florence.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14, at United Methodist Church in Florence with pastor Bill Dyar and Everett Cress officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence.

He was born Feb. 12, 1930, to Warrin and Bertha Osgood near Peabody. On Oct. 5, 1954, he was married to Marjorie Maltbie, who survives.

He is also survived by one son, Lawrence W. Osgood of Cedar Point; six daughters, Laverna Chaney of El Dorado, Theresa Danby of Newton, Monica Jones of Emporia, Connie Lang of Topeka, Anita Hind of Newton and Michelle Nelson of Cassody; two brothers, Francis Osgood of Council Grove and Lloyd Osgood of Kinsley; one sister, Helen Riggs of Bushton; 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials were established with Veterans Administration and Central Homecare and Hospice.

Peggy Jean Hett, 71

Peggy Jean (McCarty) Hett, 71, homemaker, died Aug. 2 at Newton Medical Center.

The funeral was Aug. 7 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with pastor Bill Sherfy officiating. Burial was at Marion Cemetery.

She was born Aug. 29, 1930, to Gene and Vera (Keazer) McCarty. On Nov. 21, 1948, she was married to Jerry Hett, who predeceased her in 1998.

She is survived by five sons, Gene, Gary, Jerry and David, all of Marion, and Bob of Wichita; one daughter, Lori Heerey of Marion; two brothers, Don McCarty of Marion and Larry McCarty of Maple Lake, Minn.; one sister, Dorothy Stubby of Newton; and 12 grandchildren.

A memorial was established with the Marion Library children’s section.

Alma Hilsenbeck, 93

Alma Mae (Hefley) Hilsenbeck, 93, retired teacher, died Aug. 7 at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.

The funeral was Aug. 12 at Marion Christian Church with pastor John Yates officiating. The burial was at Marion Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 19, 1908, to Fred and Anna (Zimmerman) Hefley in rural Durham. In 1942, she was married to Dan Schlotthauer, who died in 1972. In 1973, she was married to Leonard Hilsenbeck, who predeceased her in 1985.

She is survived by one brother, Maynard Hefley and wife Ruby of Hillsboro; one sister, Florence Ehrlich and husband J.C. of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials were established with Marion Senior Center and Christian Women’s Fellowship.
