Peabody came up two points shy of winning the Mid-Kansas League swimming title Saturday at Council Grove.
Peabody swimmers scored 305 points while Council Grove scored 307 to take home the championship.
The Marion and Hillsboro teams finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Marion scored 202 points while Hillsboro tallied 182.
Hillsboro Swim Team coach Mary K. Humber said the meet was rewarding despite the fifth-place finish.
“I am very happy that we came in fifth,” Humber said. “After being in sixth place through much of the meet, the swimmers rallied and pulled us into fifth place through sheer determination.
“While swimmers on some were leaving early against their coaches’ wishes, our kids persevered and that allowed us to pull into fifth place.
“Matt and I really appreciate the kids, their attitudes and their endurance,” Humber said.
