ORIGINALLY WRITTEN DON RATLAFF
What a difference a week makes. We thank The Almighty for a timely dose of sunshine and warm temperatures. It may make some of us office-types a bit uncomfortable in those rare trips outdoors, but it’s what our farmers needed to get the wheat harvest under way. When they’re happy, we’re all happy.

And, even though the weight and yield of this year’s crop appears to be only average at best, we got another timely miracle: a wheat price above $3 a bushel. We haven’t seen that price around here for several years.

We don’t know why we seem to be so much better off in this area than in other parts of the state, but we’re grateful for these gracious gifts. -DR
