Hillsboro swimmers sink Hesston at home meet

The Hillsboro swim team racked up its second straight win of the year at home Saturday against Hesston.

The early cold and overcast morning didn’t deter swimmers from competing.

From the outset Hillsboro dominated the event and went on to sail past the visitors, 759.5 to 485.5.

After the meet, coach Mary J. Humber was pleased with her team’s performance.

“I thought it was great that we did so well,” Humber said. “We were real surprised that we beat them by so much.”

The Hillsboro team had a strong showing, delivering 84 individual best times over the 76 events.

“Kids are routinely dropping seconds off their times,” Humber said. “That’s exciting for them and the coaches.”

After the win, the swimmers ganged up on Humber and threw her into the pool to celebrate the win.

“If we win, they’re allowed to throw me in-so I got thrown in,” she said.
