Aulne fireworks scheduled for July 7

The Aulne annual fireworks display, celebrating the Fourth of July, will begin with a basket supper at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, July 7, in Aulne.

Participants are asked to bring their own basket supper, table service, lawn chairs and blankets. Drinks will be provided.

Anything Goes Band will perform at about 7 p.m.; homemade ice cream, cake and pie will be served at 8 p.m.; and fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m.

The public is invited.

Card shower request for Bessie Vogt

The family of Bessie (Leppke-Penner) Vogt is requesting a card shower to honor her 80th birthday on June 25.

She was born in Ebenfeld and has lived with her husband, Henry, in Cordell, Okla., for the last 15 years.

Her children include one daughter, Dianne Lygrisse and her husband, Glenn, of Hillsboro and one son, Ron Penner and his wife, Melanie, of Wichita.

The Vogts live in a retirement apartment at 701 E. 12th, Apt. 27, Cordell, OK 73632. They will be visiting their children in Hillsboro the last week of the month.

Three HHS students attend Farmland leadership event

Three Hillsboro High School students attended Farmland’s Youth Leadership Conference May 28 to June 4 on the William Jewell College campus in Liberty, Mo.

Cody Pankratz, Danielle Goossen and Scott Nuss were among 225 delegates who attended the conference.

Parents of the students are Jerel and Serena Pankratz, Keith and Karen Goossen and Dale and Becky Nuss.

The students were sponsored by Cooperative Grain and Supply and Countryside Feed of Hillsboro.

To participate, young people from across the Midwest competed for sponsorships awarded by their local cooperatives, FFA chapters, 4-H clubs and community organizations.

The conference was designed to give 16-to 18-year-olds the opportunity to discover their leadership potential through personal development, career exploration, teamwork and cooperative-understanding activities.
