HHS celebrates 96th commencement

The Hillsboro High School Class of 2002 received diplomas Sunday afternoon. Of the 59 graduates, 30 made the honor role. The class had three valedictorians: Jenna Jost and Shannon Kroeker (pictured at left giving a joint address) and Jonathan Regier. Julia Wall was salutatorian. In addition to diplomas, administrators distributed numerous scholarship awards. The two key presentations-the $200 Kansas State High School Citizenship Award and the $4,500 John A. and Harriet Kizler Wiebe Good Citizen Scholarship-went to the same two students: Holly Lindsay and Regier. Kara Kaufman received the $1,000 C.M. Sextro Academic Scholarship for Mathematics; Jordan Woelk received the $300 Hillsboro Education Association scholarship; Kaufman and Danielle Horn each received a $500 Hillsboro Community Medical Center Scholarship for students entering a health-related field; Trista Hanley, Jocelyn Kliewer and Horn received $500 scholarships from the Hillsboro Lions Club; Lindsay was awarded a $200 Alpha Omega Incentive Award; and Robyn Penner received a $300 scholarship from Marion County Farm Bureau.
