The Marion Warrior baseball team used a strong fifth inning to take down Leon-Bluestem Monday night, 6-4, in the first round of the Class 3A regional tournament mat Marion.

The Warriors trailed 2-0 after three innings, but managed to tack on five runs after Matt Rhodes started an offensive rally for the Warriors. With Rhodes, Neil Waner and Mitch Enos on base, Clayton Chamberland hit a double to score two runs.

With men on second and third, Robert Verbic connected on an off-speed pitch for a triple to score Enos and Chamberland.

Jason Matz’s double brought in Verbic for the fifth and final run of the fifth inning.

The Warriors surrendered two runs in the sixth, but added one more in the same inning for the eventual 6-4 win.
