Marion softball on four-game losing streak

After winning four straight games to start the season, the Marion girls’ softball team has dropped four in a row after picking up two losses last Tuesday against Sacred Heart.

Marion fell to the Knights 13-9 in the first game and 8-6 in the second game.

Coach Charlotte Waner said she thought her team hit the ball with more success versus the Knights.

“We batted much better Tuesday,” Waner said. “We just did not take care of the ball very well. We need to keep working on our mental game.”

Megan Moore led the offensive attack in the first game with a homerun and a triple. Defensively, Moore struck out five hitters in both games.

In the second game, Emmy Bowers and Leann Thomas had a triple and a double, respectively.

Waner said she was pleased with her team’s effort.

“The girls played with heart by not giving up,” Waner said. “It was a fight throughout the whole game.”

The Warriors are 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the Cottonwood Valley League.

Marion was scheduled to play Canton-Galva Tuesday on the road, and Ell-Saline Friday at home.
