Hillsboro golf coach Scott O’Hare took his young varsity squad to two junior varsity meets last week to give them some needed course experience in a more competitive environment.
The Trojans’ four-man team placed sixth in the eight-team field with a score of 403-56 strokes off the pace set by Wichita Collegiate.
Randy Klassen led Hillsboro with a 96 over 18 holes to finish 21st among 43 participants. Ryan Fields followed with a 98 (24th), Jordan Allen 104 (28th), Billy Winegarner 105 (30th), Lance Bartel 105 (31st) and Michael Fisher 119 (39th).
Two days earlier, the Trojans competed at the junior varsity meet in Marion.
Fields finished second in the individual race for medals with a 44 for nine holes, only one stroke behind the leader. Medals were awarded to the top 40 finishers.
Klassen placed 22nd and Winegarner 23rd, each with a 51. Lance Bartel shot a 57 for 39th place. Michael Fisher shot a 58, but just missed the cut for medals.
Fifty-nine golfers from 11 schools participated.
