Jeff Boschee will lead KU tour into Hillsboro Sunday

Led by Jeff Boschee, six Kansas University seniors are expected to bring the Jayhawks’ annual Barnstorming Tour to Hillsboro on Sunday, April 21.

Boschee, who averaged 13.4 points a game and finished his career as Kansas’ all-time leader in 3-point shooting, will be joined by teammates Jeff Carey, Brett Ballard, Lewis Harrison, Todd Kappelman and Chris Zerbe.

The Jayhawks will tip off at 3 p.m. against a team of senior players from the five Marion County high schools.

The roster of all-stars includes: Adam Woods, Ross Duerksen and Layne Frick from Hillsboro; Jamal Adams and Daniel Silbereisen from Goessel; Braxton Skiles, Keith Dudley, Laramie Trapp and Robert Verbic from Marion; Grant Garrard, Justin Makovec and Carmen Mille from Centre; and Tommy Phillips, Jared Lopez, Steven Morgan and Grant Klingenberg from Peabody-Burns.

The Marion County All-Stars will be coached by Lonnie Hiebert, former Goessel High School standout who now serves as a deputy sheriff for Marion County.

The Hawks will sign autographs beginning at 1:30 p.m. KU T-shirts and posters will be available for purchase and the players will conduct an auction of KU memorabilia during halftime.

Tickets for the event, which will be held in Hillsboro High School’s Robert C. Brown Gymnasium, 400 E. A Street, can be purchased for $5 in advance or at the door.

Tickets are available from Emprise Bank, Irv Schroeder County Motors, Hillsboro State Bank and Silver Shears in Hillsboro; Citizens State Bank in Goessel; Carlson’s IGA in Marion; Peabody State Bank in Peabody; Al’s Cafe in Lost Springs; and Cottonwood Valley Bank in Florence.

Hillsboro is one of only five Kansas communities to host the tour this year. The event is sponsored by the Hillsboro Trojan Booster Club.
