Goessel girls and boys take second at Hesston track meet

The Goessel girls’ and boys’ track teams placed second behind the host school at the Hesston Track Meet last Tuesday.

Bluebird coach Brian Stucky was pleased with his team’s performance despite chilling temperatures.

“Aside from the extreme cold wind chill, our kids did really pretty well,” Stucky said.

Several athletes made considerable contributions to the effort, including Melinda Stucky, who finished first in the high jump by clearing 5 feet 4 inches.

Darla Funk won the triple jump with a leap of 29-10. Lindsey Unruh won the the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute and 0.7 of a second. Katie Schroeder won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 56.8.

On the boys’ side, Korrie Bennett finished first in the high jump by clearing 5-5. Peter Goerzen grabbed second in the triple jump with a leap of 37-41/4.

Jeremy Voth placed second in the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and as a member of the 4×100 relay.
