The Tabor College track and field team competed in their first outdoor meet of the year at Southwestern College, Thursday, at Winfield.

After the meet, coach Dave Kroeker said he thought the event was a good measuring tool for his team.

“The first meet gives us a time, distance, or height to work from for the rest of the season,” Kroeker said. “The first meet also helps us as coaches adjust our training to meet the needs of each athlete as they work toward their season goals.”

Tammy McCarren placed second in the women’s discus with a throw of 120 feet, and Angela Jost placed second in the women’s 800-meter race with a time of 2:29.

Adam Penner placed fourth in the men’s high jump, clearing 6-2. Brad Solorio grabbed a fourth-place finish in the men’s shot put with a throw of 46-1. Kevin Nickel finished sixth in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:26.

Tabor travels to McPherson Saturday for the McPherson Invitational.
