GWCA to host blood drive March 8

The Goessel Women’s Christian Association will host an American Red Cross blood drive from noon to 6 p.m., Friday, March 8, at Goessel Mennonite Church.

“I would like to encourage everyone to come and recycle life when they donate blood,” said Agatha Duerksen, blood-drive chair.

Benefit account for Tucker Hein, 1

A benefit account has been set up for Tucker Hein, 1, at Great Plains Credit Union in Hillsboro. The account was established to help with his medical and travel expenses.

Tucker has been diagnosed with brain atrophy.

He is the son of Tim Hein and grandson of Rick and Brenda Moss and great-grandson of Bob and Janis Hein, all of Hillsboro.

Hillsboro gift-of-life blood drive Monday

The American Red Cross asks area residents to give the gift of life by donating blood from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, March 11, at the Hillsboro Middle School gymnasium.

Blood donors must be 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health.

Appointments are preferred and can be made by calling 1-888-719-8929.

Farmerettes to meet Tuesday, March 12

The Farmerettes will meet at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, at the home of Ruth Ann Penner.

Penner will give lessons on old-fashioned home baking.

Roll call will be “Memories of Mom’s or Grandma’s baking recipes.”

Soup & pie supper to benefit eye clinic

The Durham Lions Club will host a soup and pie supper at 5:30 p.m., Monday, March 18, at the Durham Community Center.

A freewill donation is requested for the meal, which will feature a choice of chili or chicken noodle soup, and pie.

Proceeds will benefit the Marion County Lions Eye Clinic.

C.E. Night to feature message and music

Christian Endeavor Night will feature Ed and Velora Willems at 7 p.m., Sunday, March 10, at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro.

The Willems represent Mexican Mission Ministries and will give a challenge through message and music.

The public is invited.

Card shower request for Maude Gaines

The family of Maude Gaines is requesting a card shower to honor her 90th birthday on March 16.

Her birthday will be celebrated with a family gathering.

Birthday greetings may be sent to Gaines at 2244 E. 40th, Peabody.

HES to present musical March 11

The Hillsboro Elementary School first- and second-grade students will present the musical “The Cheese Stands Alone” at 7:30 p.m., Monday, March 11, in the Hillsboro High School auditorium.

The program is under the direction of HES music teacher Shirley Baltzer.

The public is invited.

Summer baseball association to meet

The Centre Summer Softball/ Baseball Association will hold its organizational meeting at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 10, at Lincolnville United Methodist Church.

Heritage museum benefit concert set

The Mennonite Heritage Museum will hold a benefit concert and Heritage Dinner beginning 6:30 p.m., Saturday, March 16, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in rural Goessel.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Ben Regier, Bethel College student, performing on the hammered dulcimer.

Tickets are $50 a plate for adults and $10 a plate for students 18 and under.
