Opal Dalke, 89

Opal Longhofer Dalke, 89, retired food-services employee, died Feb. 22 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

The funeral was Feb. 25 at Hillsboro United Methodist Church with pastors Larry Parrish and R. Laney Kuhn officiating. Burial was at Haven of Rest Cemetery in rural Hillsboro.

She was born Oct. 18, 1912, to David D. and Golda (Fanatia) Dalke in Ramona. On Aug. 15, 1936, she was married to Bill Dalke, who predeceased her in 1996.

She is survived by two sons, Warren Dalke and Jerry Dalke, both of Hillsboro; one sister, Corrine McDaris of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials were established with Parkside Homes and Hillsboro United Methodist Church.

Roland Goering, 84

Roland R. Goering, 84, former pastor of First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro, died Feb. 20.

The funeral was Feb. 23 at Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton with pastor Steven Yoder officiating. Burial was at Eden Mennonite Church Cemetery near Moundridge.

He was born Nov. 18, 1917, to Henry A. and Lydia (Stucky) Goering near Moundridge. On June 18, 1943, he was married to Fern Goering, who survives.

He is also survived by five sisters, Florence Swanson and husband Warren of Lincoln, Ark., Welma Thiessen and husband David of Peabody, Lorita Regier and husband Richard of Burrton, Ellen Schrag and husband Reuben of McPherson, and Joy Thiessen and husband Les of Moundridge; three brothers, Howard Goering and wife Darlene of Peabody, and Wilbert Goering and wife Erma, and Vernon Goering and wife Marna, all of Moundridge; brother-in-law Harold Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials have been established with Bethel College, Amnesty International and Mennonite Central Committee.

Ben L. Jost, 81

Ben L. Jost, 81, retired farm-implement business owner, died Feb. 19 at his home in Newton.

The funeral was Feb. 22 at Koerner Heights Mennonite Brethren Church in Newton. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

He was born April 13, 1920, to Henry S. and Lena (Prieb) Jost in Flowing Well, Saskatchewan, Canada.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Ensz) Jost; two daughters, Julia V. Thiessen of Wichita and Lena Moses of Newton; one brother, Bert Jost; two sisters, Vi Hiebert and Evelyn Baltzer; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the Koerner Heights MB Church in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
