Voth leads Bluebirds to two wins last week

Jeremy Voth scored 53 points in two games to help Goessel pick up crucial wins against Sedgwick and Ell-Saline last week.

A strong second quarter helped propel the Bluebirds to a 60-49 win over Ell-Saline Friday night.

Goessel led 28-19 at halftime.

The Bluebirds connected on 16 of 20 free throws in the final quarter to seal the win.

Voth led all scorers with 28 points. Jesse Goertzen and Kent Peters each had 10 points in the win.

Goessel defeated the Sedgwick Cardinals Tuesday night, 58-56, in a nail-bitter in Goessel.

The Bluebirds took a 24-23 lead at halftime, but built a six-point advantage early in the third quarter.

The Cardinals then launched a 16-4 run to steal the lead at the end of the third quarter.

With under three minutes left in the game, Goessel tied the score at 51. The Bluebirds were 3-for-6 from the charity stripe down the stretch, giving the Cardinals a chance to win.

With less than a minute remaining, Sedgwick launched several shots-but could not get them to drop.

Voth scored 25 points for Goessel, while Clinton Plenert and Peters had 14 and 12, respectively.
