Skiles’ 25 points leads Marion boys past Wichita Trinity Knights

Behind Braxton Skiles’ 25-point performance, the Marion Warriors soared past the Wichita Trinity Academy Knights, 68-56 last Tuesday night in Wichita.

After struggling offensively early in the game, Marion jumped back into the game.

The Warriors took off in the first quarter with a 17-12 advantage and never looked back.

In the following quarter, Marion started hitting offensively and took a seven-point lead at intermission.

In the third quarter, the Knights made a run at the Warrior lead, eventually cutting the margin to as little as two points.

But in the final quarter, Skiles and the Warriors ran away with the game, scoring 20 points to preserve a 12-point win.

Despite playing solid defense, Trinity’s Caleb Perrine scored 19 points against the Warrior defense.

Skiles game-high 25 points helped Marion sweep the Knights for the season.

Robert Verbic exploded with another double-digit performance adding 18 points in the Warrior win.

Coming-The Warriors picked up their 12th win of the year by defeating the Knights. Marion is 12-5 overall and 6-2 in the Cottonwood Valley League.

The Warriors traveled to Council Grove yesterday and will finish their regular season at home against Chase County on Friday.
