The Marion wrestling team brought home one third-place finish and two fourth-place finishes at the Chase County Invitational Saturday.
Marion’s Evan Sharp was 3-1 against tournament opponents. Sharp beat Wamego’s Nathaniel Jannlis in a 9-2 decision to finish third overall in the 145-pound weight class.
Thad Looper and Chelsea Arnhold both advanced to the third-place matches but fell to their respective opponents.
Marion coach Chad Adkins said the win was a precursor to things to come in regional competition this coming Friday and Saturday.
“This weekend was a good warm-up for regionals,” Adkins said. “We wrestled fairly well. I was proud of the effort.”
Emporia Double Dual-The Marion wrestling team may be on its way to future success, coach Chad Adkins said after his Warriors beat Chase County Thursday at Emporia. Marion had struggled to beat the Bulldogs for the past few years.
“This is a huge victory for us,” Adkins said. “We wrestled really well against Chase County. Thad Looper pulled out a really big victory for us. The future is looking very bright for our program.”
The Warriors defeated Chase County, 40-33. Every match was won either by decision or forfeit. No wrestlers were pinned.
In the second match, Marion fell to the Emporia junior varsity team, 45-25.
“We wrestled pretty good against Emporia,” Adkins said. “I was proud of the kids and their effort.”
Coming-The Warriors travel to Garden Plain Friday and Saturday for the Class 3-2-1A regional tournament.
