Donald Schmidt, 69
Donald D. Schmidt, 69, retired sheet-metal fabricator and part-time cashier, died Jan. 29 in Newton.
The funeral was held Feb. 1 at Peabody Christian Church with pastor Jim Pohlman officiating. Burial was at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
He was born July 14, 1932, to Daniel and Lizzie Claassen Schmidt in Greensburg. On Dec. 19, 1953, he was married to Nellie A. Schmidt, who survives.
He is also survived by four sons, Jerry Schmidt and wife Susan, and Tim Schmidt and wife Deb, all of Shawnee, Thomas E. Schmidt and wife Susie of Peabody and Dan C. Schmidt and wife Cristy of Prairie Village; one daughter, Barb Unruh and husband Barry of Newton; one brother, Herman Koop of Hutchinson; one sister, Marie Roth of Hutchinson; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Peabody Rod and Gun Club.
Robert Cabeen, 69
Robert E. Cabeen, 69, insurance agent, died Jan. 30 at his residence in Hillsboro.
The funeral was Feb. 4 at Hillsboro United Methodist Church with pastor R. Laney Kuhn officiating. Burial of cremains was at Leon Cemetery.
He was born March 21, 1932, to Edwin and Ione Lindsay Cabeen in Leon. On June 27, 1964, he was married to Norma Pickrell Cabeen, who survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, Kristine Wilson of Parker, Ariz., Michelle Scherr of Broomfield, Colo., and Carole Davies of Marion; one brother, Gary Cabeen of Missouri City, Texas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Kansas Heart Hospital of Hillsboro United Methodist Church.
Shirley Poncelet, 65
Shirley B. Poncelet, 65, retired grocery-store deli clerk and hospital-laundry supervisor, died Feb. 3. Poncelet was a resident of Florence.
The funeral was held at Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita.
She was born Oct. 10, 1936, to Samuel and Lillie Talley in Blum, Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph; her mother-in-law, Grace Poncelet of Wichita; three daughters, Marida Loehr of Florence, Patricia Noble of Wichita and Brenda Dickson of Nunnelly, Tenn.; two sisters, Joyce Lamer of Maize and Peggy Small and husband Ed of Oklahoma City, Okla.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial was established with the American Diabetes Association.
Roger Schmidt, 50
Roger Wayne Schmidt, 50, machinist for Bell Helicopter and U.S. Army veteran, died Jan. 30 as a result of a car accident in Arlington, Texas.
The funeral was held Feb. 4 at Greensburg Mennonite Church with pastor Jeffrey D. Blackburn officiating. Burial was at Sunset Cemetery in Cullison.
He was born March 11, 1951, to James Lloyd and Gladys Philpott Schmidt in Pratt.
He is survived by his parents of Hillsboro; two sisters, Phyllis VanHorn and husband Clifford of McPherson and Lois Darlene Bartel and husband Daryl of Hillsboro; two nephews and one niece.
A memorial has been established with Greensburg Mennonite Church in care of Fleener Chapel.
