First Mennonite Church, Hillsboro, is inviting the public to listen to an Islamic leader talk about his faith and his homeland, Afghanistan, at 7 p.m., Jan. 20, at the church.

Abe Jibril, an engineer and Islamic leader from Wichita, will be on hand to talk about the tenets of Islam as well as the culture and current needs of the Afghan people.

The meeting is being sponsored by the Hillsboro congregation’s Peace and Service Committee.

“We thought it could be helpful for us to gain a more personal understanding of the Islamic faith and people in light of the recent terrorist tragedies,” said Ken Peterson, pastor.
