Bluebird boys grab two wins last week

Despite a cold shooting night, the Goessel boys’ basketball team defeated Central Christian Friday, 46-41.


After trailing at half 24-18, Central Christian tied the game at 33 early in the fourth quarter.


But Goessel jumped to a 40-33 lead and Central didn’t get closer than four points the rest of the game.


Jeremy Voth dominated the boards for the Bluebirds, pulling down 18 rebounds and scoring 16 points. Kent Peters dumped in 13 points with Clinton Plenert adding 12.


Moundridge-After two overtime periods, the Goessel boys’ basketball team squeeked out a 69-67 victory against Moundridge Tuesday.


The Bluebirds stayed in the game in the first overtime period by shooting 6-for-8 from the charity stripe.


In the second overtime, Goessel jumped to a 63-59 lead. With Moundridge threatening, the Bluebirds hit four straight free throws to preserve the win.


Jeremey Voth had 30 points to pace the Bluebirds. Kent Peters had 16 and Clinton Plenert had 13 points.


Coming-The Goessel boys’ team is 5-2 in the Heart of America League and will take their 6-5 overall record intot he Canton-Galva Tournament this week.


The Bluebirds played in the first round Monday and will play Thursday and Friday.
