Marion splits two against Herington

The Marion girls’ basketball team snatched their third win in the Cottonwood Valley League Friday night at home with a 50-45 win over the Herington Railers.



The Warriors and Railers traded baskets throughout the first half, until Marion went on a 10-0 run in the second quarter.



Despite a late-game rally by the Railers, the Warriors held off the surge to grab the win.



The Warriors are 3-1 in the CVL and 4-5 overall.



The Warrior boys’ couldn’t stop Herington’s Colby Bettles 20-point performance as they were handed their third-straight loss. Marion fell 58-54 to the Railers Friday night at Marion.



Marion trailed by 11 points after the first quarter, but made a strong comeback in the second to take a 2-point lead into the locker room at halftime.



In the second half, the Warriors had the lead up until Herington’s Casey Shlesener nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key to give the Railers their first lead of the second half at the 17-second mark.



The Warriors attempted a shot inside the paint, but subsequently missed the shot and fouled the Railers to close out the game.



Marion’s Brian Bina had 16 points to lead the Warriors.



The Warriors fall to 5-4 on the year and 2-2 in the CVL.



Marion hosts Wichita Trinity Tuesday night.
