ANNIVERSARIES: Bargens to mark 50th, late December

Eldon and Helen (Bartel) Bargen will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this month.



The couple were married on Dec. 28, 1951, in Hillsboro.



The Bargen family gathered for five days in June at the Lake of the Ozarks.



Their voluntary service in the past included three years at the Brook Lane Farm Hospital in Hagerstown, Md., three summers at Camp Friedenswald in Cassopolis, Mich., and 18 months at the Mennonite Mission School in Colombia. The couple also hosted the guest house at the Associated Mennonite Seminary in Elkhart, Ind., for eight years.



Eldon was a teacher in the secondary schools in Wichita, Wadsworth, Ohio, and Avon Lake, Ohio. He also worked as a draftsman for furniture and cabinet businesses and is self-employed in residential drafting.



Helen was employed as a dental assistant before working for more than 11 years as housekeeping supervisor at Prairie View in Newton. She retired in 1994.



Their children are Dale Bargen and his wife, Jenny, of Buford, Ga., and Jan Bargen of Austin, Texas. They have four grandchildren.
