Marion splits games against Council Grove

The Marion girls basketball team grabbed their third win of the year and their second-straight CVL victory with a 51-29 win over Council Grove Friday night.



The Warriors and Braves kept the score close in the first two quarters before Marion ran away with the game in the third quarter.



Warrior, Brandi Peterie netted 17 points to lead Marion. Krista Zogelman added 10.



Marion is 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the CVL.



The Council Grove boys basketball team outlasted the Marion boys team 53-51 Friday night to hand the Warriors their first league loss.



Marion trailed the entire game before senior Robert Verbic nailed a 3-point shot at the end of the third quarter to give the Warriors a 41-40 lead.



But in the final quarter, the Warriors were unable to hold on to their lead and fell 53-51 in the closing seconds of the game.



Marion’s Verbic had 14 points and Braxton Skiles added 13.



With the loss, the Warriors are 3-3 overall and are 1-1 in the CVL.



Marion travels to Hope Tuesday night in a non-league match-up.
