HHS volleyball & cross country qualify for state

Hillsboro High School qualified two teams for state competition Saturday.

The Trojan volleyball team won its first state berth under coach Collette Burton with a 15-8, 15-8 sweep of Hoisington in the sub-state finals at Hesston. The Trojans got to the title match by sweeping Lyons in the first round, 15-9, 15-11, and then beating Southeast of Saline in the semifinals, 15-10, 15-12.

Meanwhile, the Trojan cross country qualified for state by winning their regional in Ellsworth Saturday afternoon. Pete Richert was the top Trojan finisher, followed by Daniel Yoder and Matt Unger– all three of whom finished in the top 10. Also scoring for HHS were Aaron Yoder and Kody Borg.

The state volleyball tournament begins next Friday and runs into Saturday while the cross country title will be decided on Saurday.
