Tabor blanks Sterling 25-0

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN ERIC CLARK
A dominant Tabor defense spelled doom for the Sterling Warriors Saturday at Reimer field, as the Bluejays held the Warriors to just 11 yards rushing and 69 yards passing to secure a 25-0 win.

The Bluejays would force a safety at the 10:18 mark of the first quarter to get on the board early.

Several minutes later Tyson Ratzlaff and a Sterling defender got tangled up and the ball was tipped.

The ball would eventually drop into Ratzlaff’s hands for 19 yards and Tabor’s first touchdown of the game.

Pohlman added the PAT and Bluejays lead 9-0 after the first quarter.

Tabor would tack on a Nathan Funk touchdown catch and a Pohlman 39-yard field goal to extend the Bluejays’ lead to 19.

In the third, Dave Hernandez would lead the Bluejays down the field and plunge one-yard for paydirt.

Pohlman missed the extra point but Tabor lead 25-0.

Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth and Bluejays brought home their third win of the season and their second KCAC win of the year.

Tracy Wehrman lead the defensive attack with four tackels, two assists and one sack.

Head Coach Tim McCarty elected to go with Dave Hernandez as his starting quarterback on the afternoon over Willie Lopez who has started at QB for the Bluejays in all of the games up until now, and the move proved positive.

Hernandez made good of his first start as a Bluejay by throwing for 269 yards on 18 passes and throwing for two touchdowns.

He was picked off three times by the Warriors, but will most likely be the Bluejay starter next week against Kansas Wesleyan Universtiy according to coach McCarty.

Tabor (3-3) will host KWU Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
