Marion falls 27-14 to Hesston

A big first quarter lead and a strong offensive line were all the Hesston Swathers needed to take control of the game and beat the Marion Warriors 27-14 Friday night at Warrior Stadium.



The Warriors drew first blood on the night at the 11:12 mark of the first as Jared Smith pitched the ball on an option play to Jarvis Whiteman for a forty-plus touchdown run.



Alex Saxonis would add the extra point and the Warriors jumped out to a 7-0 lead.



Less the a minute later the Swathers’ Brian Roulhac took the juked his way for touchdown and Micah Loucks added the PAT to tie the ball game up at seven.



After two more Hesston touchdowns the Warriors trailed 21-7 as they headed into the lockerroom at half.



In the second half the Warriors jumped out to a commanding start.



After holding the Hesston offense, on fourth-down Robert Verbic dove in and blocked the Swather punt and the Warriors recovered it.



At the 9:41 mark of the third Steven Boone blasted in from the two to cut theSwather lead to seven.



But late in the fourth, Roulhac broke free inside the Warrior twenty and scored what would eventually be the last touchdown of the ball game.



The Warriors are 5-2 on the year and 0-1 in district play. Friday Marion will travel to Hillsboro to take on the undefeated Trojans who are 1-0 in district play after a win against Herington.
