The Marion Warriors avenged last seasons 7-0 loss to Sacred Heart by soundly defeating the undefeated Knights 35-21 to claim the Cottonwood Valley League title Friday night at Warrior Stadium.

The Warriors were paced offensively by quarterback Jared Smith.

After a Brookens fumble recovery in the end zone late in the first half the Warriors went to the locker room up 21-7.

In the second half, Smith picked off two Sacred Heart passes and threw for an 85-yard strike to Robert Verbic to seal the win.

Brookens nearly went the distance after he picked up another fumble in the closing seconds of the game but was tackeled inside the Knights’ 10-yard line.

The Warriors would take a knee and come away with the 35-21 win.

Marion will begin district play next Friday against Hesston.
